Meet Jeff Matson, WordPress developer extraordinaire. Don’t confuse him for the musician with the same name (although they both have impressive beards).

Jeff is part of the GravityForms team at RocketGenius and creator of the NotifyBot plugin for WordPress. A continuation of our theme from last week (Episode 104), we’ll talk about what it’s like to launch a plugin business, market it, and grow it.

Tune in for some good times!

p.s. If you haven’t met Jeff, I highly encourage you to hear his story.

Get the project done. It can be perfect later – Jeff Matson

  • Working on documentation can help you learn to dissect code and to understand frameworks.
  • NotifyBot was created from the encouragement of coworkers who said do not wait until the plugin is “perfect” before releasing.
  • NotifyBot is a notification and alert WordPress plugin that can be used to manage sites with multiple users.
  • NotifyBot allows you to receive notifications around specific events. You can modify modifications for email services.
  • The use cases for the plugin have come from other WordPress Developers.
  • Logging will be added to the NotifyBot plugin once the user interface is created.

Pricing

  • NotifyBot was introduced with the Premium model.  The plugin is not in the WordPress Repository.
  • The plugin is priced to be affordable to the impulse buyer.
  • Since NotifyBot is not in the WordPress Repository the marketing is being done organically using the Website, Twitter, etc.

Support

  • You need to pay attention to every request coming in.
  • Do not give users more information than they are asking for.
  • There is something to learn from every support ticket.
  • If you find a problem, fix it.
  • Go through your support tickets once a week to see if there are trends with the questions that are being asked.
  • Check with the support team to find out if documentation exists for an issue.
  • Update the documentation as soon as you get the chance.
  • Written content with images really helps the user move quickly through the article.
  • Always have video with your support if you can. Video helps with the site SEO.
